Prior to that, Mr. Rishel was employed at Bell Atlantic Healthcare Systems (which later became Oacis Healthcare Systems) as the vice president of product development, where he developed one of the first interface engines and the first PC- and LAN-based products to be widely implemented in healthcare institutions. Mr. Runyon has approximately 25 years of IT experience inside and outside of the healthcare domain. Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Runyon held lead architect and technical management positions with both consulting and vendor organizations and most recently as CTO of a university teaching hospital. He was involved very early with the development of HL7 while consulting at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Runyon is interested in the various technical disciplines and methodologies underlying the definition, design, development and deployment of healthcare applications systems. Mr. Runyon received his undergraduate degree from Murray State University and graduate degree from the University of Kentucky.

Vi Shaffer is vice president overseeing the agenda priorities for Gartner’s global healthcare provider research.
